Goodbye Holidays - on we go

Sunday eve and the holidays are officially over.

Goal today was to run 4 miles in addition another teacher called and asked me to teach her 11:30 Spin class for her.

The plan was to run 4 miles at 10:30 turned into 10:45 which turned into 10:56 by the time I actually got on the treadmill. Of course the whole time I was justifying 'Well I am going to teach an hour long class so it's not like I won't get a workout'.

Friday, Saturday and today I wasn't feeling 100% - mostly due to an over abundance of New Years beans. You do know that you are supposed to eat black eye peas at New Years for good luck right? Well I think it was too much bulk or too much fiber or just too much for me and after eating beans Friday PM and Saturday PM I think I'd overindulged. Ugh.

Net net I only ran about 1.8 miles and then taught an hour long spin class.

Not bad not great it just is.

What will I do tomorrow when I have to wake up early and work a full day? Stay tuned.

First Day of the New Year

Is it counter productive to watch movies that show magical romance that culminates in a New Years Eve party or some other conflicted experience where you realize that your one true love has been right in front of you the whole time and then as the clock strikes midnight or the person walks out, the couple connects across the room and realize they are made for each other? How many are there? When Harry Met Sally, my personal favorite, Somone LIke You, Mama Mia, About Last Night and then of course there is the finale of season six of Sex and the City followed by the movie Sex and the City, which now that I think of it trumps When Harry Met Sally as my favorite.
I know that this has nothing to do with running a 1/2 marathon in 2010 but it is something that has been on my mind. Not necessarily because I stayed in alone last night as 2009 became 2010 but because they are my faovrite movies to watch and I would like that to happen for me. Because there are days when I am headed out on a date, and days when I am not, that I wonder if I will ever fall in love again. Not a person that I try to fall in love with but a person that I just fall over a cliff in love with.
It's been a long time and I question myself rather than ever believing that maybe it is not me, maybe it is all of the men I have dated. Maybe I am unique, special, kind and wonderful. Maybe I deserve the world and I should be happy and know that he is there and I can just relax. Maybe - just maybe.
Here's to a new year full of magical possibilities, including a 1/2 marathon.

Here Comes 2010

Tried for 3 miles again today. I was at two miles at 27 minutes and i was thinking for sure that I could make 3 miles in less than 40 minutes but I psyched myself out. So I was at 2.97mile @ 39 minutes so I just got off the treadmill.
I am glad that I went to run and am even lookig forward to going again tomorrow - which is supposed to be a say off - we will see.

Blue Moon - Blue Me

Today was a day of cross training so I used teaching a spin class as my training. It was a vigorous workout. So yeah!
All day New Years Eve has been weighing heavy on my mind and even though not one person I know has any fantastic plans I am shoulding all over myself. That along with the realization that the man I was semi-interested in is obviously not emotionally available has sent me into the holiday dumper - well that and maybe the two cocktails.

Coupled with the fact that I can't even let myself feel bad without worrying about creating bad karma - feeling like I should be able to talk myself out of it etc. UGH!

No wonder I don't like New Years - so much damn pressure.

What are you doing New Years? Ugh - Nothing!

Day 3 - or - Finding 40

Conversation in my head -

Tuesday is my usual day off so maybe I won't go to the gym.
No - go ahead and go -
Well I already exercised Monday and I am on vacation and I'm just getting over a cold
Just do it - don't be so lazy

So I went and I tried, I really tried, to just keep running for the three miles, even one mile. I did come closer today - I had good music and I had the right treadmill and it was all good. I did the three miles in 40 minutes. Do you understand that equals a 13.33 mile and if I were do - no - WHEN I do 13.5 miles it will take me almost three hours - can I possibly run for three hours - AACCKKK!

What to do - what to do - before I can really do the training program I will have to be able to run three miles so I will keep working.

40 minutes is what I did today. Tomorrow is 30 minutes of cross training and I am going to use my hour Spin class as my cross training. As soon as I can get to the three mile mark I can progress in the training program, not until then.

The first three - I mean two - miles!

Luxuriously slept until 6:45 this morning and hit the gym at 7:45 with the intention of running three miles which I understand is the pre-requisite for the 1/2 marathon training program I pulled off the web.
Physically I could do it but mentally, not so much. As I hit the treadmill - first it seemed too slow, then too fast, I couldn't find the music I wanted on my iPod and then couldn't get my iPod into the cute little pocket on my Lululemon shirt. I jogged, sprinted, walked - heard the voice of Jillian Michaels yelling - Do NOT touch the treadmill! Finally after 30 minutes and a mere two miles I hit stop.
To be clear, today was a strength training day, not running, so my attempt was noble even with my pounding sinus headache.
After a fun day including seeing It's Complicated with Meryl and Alec, I headed out to the Dailey Method for an hour of strenght training. An hour of torture and it was over.
Overall I did a good job on todays training - not to mention the fact that I avoided eating a big holiday dose of sugary goodness.
Tomorrow's plan is to run three miles - I will run three miles without stopping or getting sucked under the treadmill George Jetson style.
Stay tuned.

The First Miles

I am starting my blog as an electronic journal to keep track of training for my first half marathon ever. I say that now as I'm quite sure that just as my mind jumps around so will this blog.
As 2009 winds down I begin my annual reflection - actually it is not only at the end of the year I am constantly reflecting, my life, my work, my lack of a life and most currently on the possibility of a lack of work. That's another story.
September was my 30th high school reunion - so much fun that I was on a high school high for a month afterward. Not only was it amazing to reconnect with a super group of people but I felt good, looked good and it was all good.
So with the 30th reunion behind me, 2009 almost behind me and part of my career (yes that again) close to being behind me I was reflecting on what makes me happy, when I have been happy and what I have felt like when I did significant things in my life. buying my condo, designing a remodel, learning to teach aerobics, finishing highschool early. It was exhilirating and affirming and confidence building galore.
What would should my new goal be? Not losing weight that is so played out, plus it has already been a goal for almost 2/3 of my life so it is more like an old friend then a goal. I needed something out of my realm - like I thought buying a house was.
So I had he idea of running. I've never liked running, it is hard, uncomfortable, a tad boring, hurts my feet. I try it every once in a while because I think that I am going to have a runners high - alas it has never happened.
Running it is then and a 1/2 marathon at that.
Monday strength training coming so for now I will hide the rest of the M&Ms in the freezer and be done with them. A runner must eat clean - maybe that's why I am not a runner...
